Build the selection step by step, using your available catalog and store signals. The preview helps you see which products are chosen while you refine the rules, rather than leaving you to interpret configuration alone.

Choose an any-page, product-page or collection-page context.
Combine best sellers, newest products, metadata-based similar products and bought-together rules.
Set product limits, pins, filters and exclusions, with no hidden fallback selection.
Check data warnings and add a suitable later rule when a signal is unavailable.

02 / GIVE IT A PLACE IN YOUR THEME

Preview the presentation. Connect the placement.

Choose the heading, grid or slider presentation, and product count. When the selection is ready, activate it and connect its ID to a MerchCanvas picks app block in Shopify’s theme editor.

Add a dedicated section through Add section → Apps → MerchCanvas picks.
Enter the saved Recommendation ID, position the section and save the theme.
Preview in your actual storefront once a matching block is installed on a compatible page.
Pause the recommendation to stop serving it; activation alone never adds a theme section.

Create a recommendation for a product page, collection page or a placement that does not need either context.

Compose the selection

Add selection rules in order, refine filters and pins, and preview the products using your synced data.

Activate and place it

Activate the recommendation, add its app block in the theme editor, and connect it using the recommendation ID.

Will activating a recommendation add it to my theme?

No. Activation makes the saved selection available. Add the MerchCanvas picks app block in Shopify’s theme editor, connect its recommendation ID and save the theme. Your theme must support app blocks.

Are recommendations generated by AI?

These recommendations use explicit selection rules and available store data. Similar products are matched using product type, tags and vendor, not image recognition or generative AI.

What happens if my store does not have enough sales data?

Rules that need unavailable data may not return products. You can add a later rule such as Newest products to fill the selection. The preview shows data warnings so you can make an informed choice.
